ABSORPTION

Many objects in our daily life are made of different materials. Some of these materials can absorb water and some cannot. When we are wet, we need a towel to dry ourselves. Do you know other things which can absorb water ? Lets check them out !

LESSON 1 : Materials That Can Absorb Water
Materials that can absorb water are called absorbent materials.
These are the examples of absorbent materials:

toilet paper

washing sponge

                                                                        handkerchief

pillows

cloth

How Can The Water Absorb In These Materials ?

This is how water absorb in the absorbent materials ( tissue

          paper ).

LESSON 2: Materials That Cannot Absorb Water
Materials that cannot absorb water that called non-absorbent materials. These are the examples of non-absorbent:

glass

spoon

umbrella

pebbles
rubber gloves

LESSON 3 : Why Is Absorption Important ?
The ability of some materials to absorb water is very useful in our daily life.

MAGNETS

LESSON 1 : Types of Magnets
These are some of the different shapes of magnets.

bar magnet

cylindrical magnet

circular magnet
ring magnet

horseshoe magnet

U-shape magnet

Magnet has North pole and south pole. Letter "N" represent north pole and letter "S" represent south pole.

LESSON 2: Attract or Repel

When we put two magnets close to each other, they can either attract or repel each other.
Different poles of magnets attract. Same poles of magnets repel.

a) South pole repels South pole.
b) North pole repels North pole.
c) South pole attracts South pole.

LESSON 3: Handling Magnets

This is how we handle magnets properly.

LESSON 4: Magnets Attract Some Materials

Objects which are made of iron are attracted to magnets. They are called magnetic objects.
Objects which are not attracted to magnets are called non-magnetic objects.

( i )These are some examples of magnetic objects:

screws                                         sciccors

metal ruler

paper clips

These are the ways the magnets attract the objects:

( ii ) These are some examples of non-magnetic objects :

chopsticks
washing sponge

soft toy

pencils

plastic bottles

LESSON 5: Uses Of Magnets
Magnets are used in many things such as in refrigerator, pencil case and compass.

Magnetic strip is used to close the refrigerator door firmly.

The magnetic needles help to show directions in the compass.

The magnetic bar is used to close the pencil case tightly.

ANIMALS

LESSON 1: External Features Of Animals

An elephant has four legs,
a trunk , a pair of tusks and a pair of eyes.
It also has a pair of big ears and a big body.

A fish has a pair of eyes, a pair of fins and a tail.
It is also has scales covering its whole body.
It uses its scales to balance when it is swimming in the river and the sea.

A bird has a pair of eyes, a pair of wings and a pair of claws.
It also has a beak and a tail.
It has feathers covering its body.
It uses its wings to fly in the sky.

A goat has a pair of eyes, a pair of ears and a pair of horns.
It also has a tail and four legs.
It has hair covering its body.
It uses its horn to defend itself.

LESSON 2: Grouping Of Animals
Animals can be grouped according to their similarities.
a) animals groups by  four legs

cow

deer

dog

donkey

hippopotamus

elephant

A hippopotamus has four legs and it is also has horns. So, it can group by animal with four legs and animal which has horn.

b) Animals group by two legs

penguin

turkey

ostrich

eagle

c) Animals group by scales

fish

snake

           crocodile

A crocodile has four legs and it is also has scales cover its body. So, it can group by animal with four legs and animal which has scales.
